2023-01-05

Mercury iodide, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula HgI2. There are two variants, a red mercury iodide with tetragonal crystals.
Uses:
1、Preparation of Nesseler's reagent (Nesseler's) and Mayer's reagent (Mayer's), determination of palladium.
2、Used in analytical chemistry to prepare Nesseler's reagent and Mayer's alkaloid reagent for the qualitative detection of ammonium ion and ammonia.
3、Used as semiconductor material.
4、Used in gamma ray or x-ray detection or imaging equipment operating at room temperature.
5、In medicine, mercury iodide is used to treat syphilis. In veterinary medicine, mercury iodide is contained in ointments for the treatment of bone spurs and mucous cyst enlargement.

Characteristics:
1. decompose when see light, will turn brown under long term light, especially sensitive to blue light, decompose to Hg and I2 at 500℃. react with potassium iodide solution can produce potassium mercury iodide.
2. Heated to 130℃, it turns yellow and still turns red when cold.
Storage method: Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse with a ""double receipt and delivery, double storage"" system. Keep away from fire and heat source. Avoid light. Packed and sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants and edible chemicals, and should not be mixed. Avoid contact with bromides, chlorides, ammonia, alkalis, cyanides, copper salts, lead salts, iodoform and hydrogen peroxide. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to shelter spills.
Transportation method: The packaging container should be checked for completeness and sealing before transportation, and the container should be ensured not to leak, collapse, fall or be damaged during transportation. Mixed transport with acids, oxidizers, food and food additives is strictly prohibited. Transport vehicles should be equipped with leak emergency response equipment. In transit should be protected from exposure, rain and high temperature.
